ASU Gammage Theater: Shows for Everyone

The theater is alive and well in the Valley of the Sun, and ASU’s Gammage Theater is geared to continue its 2015-2016 season. Since 1964, the 3,000-seat performance designed by Frank Lloyd Wright has brought various types of performances to Arizona audiences, including opera, ballet, live pop music performances, and, of course, theater productions. Here’s a look at what’s coming up!

Upcoming Shows at ASU Gammage Theater

Annie. The world’s most beloved musical is coming to Gammage. Directed by original lyricist and director Martin Charnin and choreographed by Liza Gennaro, this year’s production is the new and modern incarnation of the classic musical. Featuring the score by Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin, audience members will hear the memorable songs, “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” and the timeless classic, “Tomorrow.” The show runs from May 4-8, and tickets are already on sale!

Broadway Theater Shows

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Bringing the art of the musical comedy to the stage at Gammage this year, Gentleman’s Guide tells the hilarious story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who attempts to place himself at the top of the list by eliminating the eight pesky relatives (all played by one man) who stand in his way. Meanwhile, Monty has to juggle his mistress, his fiancée, and the constant threat of jail time. Gentleman’s Guide runs from March 15-20.

42nd Street. Based on a novel by Bradford Ropes and Busby Berkeley’s 1933 movie, 42nd Street is the story of a s young dancer named Peggy Sawyer who moves to New York from her Allentown home in hopes of landing a role in the new Broadway musical Pretty Lady. When the star breaks her ankle, Peggy takes over and fulfills her dream of becoming a star. 42nd Street hits the Gammage stage on April 5-10.

Newsies. Coming to Gammage direct from Broadway, Newsies is the crowd-pleasing musical from Disney. Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards® for Best Score and Best Choreography, Newsies tells the truly captivating story of a band of underdogs who become unlikely heroes when they stand up to the most powerful men in New York. It’s a rousing tale about fighting for what’s right…and staying true to who you are. Newsies come to Gammage on June 14-19.
