Our Favorite Tempe Eateries
Looking for a new tasty spot to hit while headed to an ASU event? New to the area and not sure where to go? We have you covered. These are some of our favorite local spots in Tempe for eating, drinking and being merry. While heading out to the East Valley for an evening, be sure to stop by these great establishments!
Cornish Pasty
Cornwall native Dean Thomas founded the Cornish Pasty Company back in January 2005 opening the Tempe, Arizona location. Dean has always been a huge pasty fan and confesses to eating at least five pasties a week when he was growing up in Saltash, Cornwall. Dean still remembers every Friday he would go over to his ‘Nans’(Grandmas) house for pasties. Apparently, “They were bloody ansome!”
The traditional pasty, particularly associated with Cornwall, the westernmost county in England, is made by placing uncooked filling typically of meat and vegetables, on a flat pastry circle and folding it to wrap the filling, crimping the edge to form a seal. After baking, the result is a raised semicircular food item (think crescent-shaped pot pie).
Dean’s real secret to success was sticking to the original Cornish ingredients for the ‘Oggie’, the classic pasty that is still served in Cornwall today. There are many other options on the menu, from Shepherds Pie to Carne Adovada, with 90% of them created by Dean himself.
Four Peaks Brewing Company
Their 8th Street brewery is not only home to giant vats in which their delicious brew is made, it also features a sizable eatery with patio seating and a delicious menu of pub favorites and their unique take on some of them. Also, although their brew is available in stores all around the valley, there’s nothing quite like the taste straight from the brewery. While you’re there, try the french fries and the nachos!
Casey Moore’s Oyster House
Casey Moore’s Oyster House is a little spot on 9th and Ash, just off University. Known as the most famous Irish Pub in Arizona, Casey’s is a mecca for the eclectic crowd that lives, studies, teaches and works in Tempe. In addition to the finest beef selections, the freshest oysters and seafood, Casey Moore’s offers a huge selection of draught beers, bottled beer, whiskeys and spirits.
