See a Christmas Story at ASU Gammage Theater

One of the classic holiday films, A Christmas Story, is coming to the stage at ASU’s Gammage Theater this holiday season. The movie that has captivated millions since its release in 1983 is now in musical form and is coming to Tempe. Produced by Peter Billingsley, the original Ralphie from the film version, A Christmas Story, The Musical! will run from November 24th through the 29th.

Set in 1940s Indiana, A Christmas Story is the tale of Ralphie, a young, bespectacled boy with a big imagination whose biggest Christmas wish is to own a Red Ryder BB gun. After being warned by his mother that he’ll shoot his eye out, Ralphie takes on a crusade to obtain his Christmas dream. For those of you who’ve seen the holiday film more times than you can count, keep an eye out for the classic scenes in the musical version, including the cranky Santa Claus, the tongue on the freezing flagpole, and the now world-famous leg lamp.

Designed originally for a theater in Baghdad, Iraq, the ASU Gammage theater was designed by the combined efforts of ASU President Grady Gammage and famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Since 1964, the 3,000-seat auditorium has been home to several operatic, orchestral dance, and theatrical productions. A Christmas Story, The Musical! is a special treat to patrons during this 51st season.
